We ended up replacing the hard drive, backing up the data and then re-installed Windows Vista. Often we will recommend taking the chance to install Windows 7 while a re-install is being completed as it is technically a better operating system, but the computer was already a number of years old and turned out running great after Vista was re-installed with all of the drivers on a new upgraded hard disk.

This client did not have their own Vista DVD so we downloaded an original copy from the internet only to find that the HP website doesn’t have a complete set of drivers in 32bit Vista, so then we downloaded the Vista 64bit OS and re-installed it once more. We did not charge the client for the extra time taken but lesson learned that HP don’t provide drivers for 32 and 64bit windows. This is strange because they provide some of the drivers but not all of them. Anyway, we had the clients PC back up and running with a new Antivirus program and a fresh copy of itunes and re-imported and setup her huge music library and synced the computer to her new iPhone and setup the iphone to sync to the pc and internet and email also.
