Yesterday I fixed a problem with the new outlook on windows 8 reminders that were not working when the calendar items were coming from icloud. The reason this happens is that the icloud folder is quite different from the standard outlook folder (pst) setup and when someone adds a new appointment reminder.
So when you go to add a reminder it says something like this:
“The reminder for “….” will not appear because the item is in a folder that doesn’t support reminders. Is this OK?”
So, according to Apple’s technical support page about it here http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4861 it should still work. But in the situation I was troubleshooting for my small business client this was not the case, it was still not working.
Even after re-installing icloud and trying to re-enable the outlook add-in (which had been disabled due to some incompatibility) it wasn’t working. It was not working because the add-in was not loading. After some more searching around I found this solution which worked brilliantly;
- you need to open Outlook as an Administrator
- go to “File” then “Options” “Add-ins” and “Com Add-ins”
- Locate “iCloud Outlook Add-in”
- Highlight it and note the exact location of the .dll file which is shown in the bar below – whilst the Add-in is still highlighted select “Remove”.
- select “Add” and go the location of the .dll file, the location of which you have noted, left click the file and select “OK”
- then re-tick the “iCloud Outlook Add-in” and “OK”
- re-start Outlook and the Refresh button should reappear
If this helps you with your outlook issue, leave me a comment! I love to help!
