How to protect yourself from the “drive-by broadband modem hack”

A new threat has emerged which could cause 50% of broadband router/modems to become at risk from hackers - depending on the websites you visit.
The risk is that people can use this threat to filter your internet access, letting them see which websites you goto and what you type in without you knowing about it.
What causes it to happen? Am I at risk?
“All you have to do to become a victim is simply visit the webpage that hosts the malicious code” … “You don’t have to click OK on any dialog boxes or accidentally download and install malicious software”… So the first step is to be careful about the websites you visit.
Ok, how do I keep myself secure?
what you need to do to protect yourself is to change the default password on your router (your modem or internet connection device). After you do this, make sure you write it down somewhere, perhaps even on a post it-note stuck to your modem/router so the password doesn’t get lost or forgotten.
But how do I change the password?
if you are not sure of how to do this, you can call the manufacturer over the phone or I can come out to help you.
This is another thing I’ll be adding to my PC health and security checklist to keep my clients secure on the net. More and more threats are emerging where hackers intercept your internet connection without you even knowing about it. Its important to get your Computer checked to lower the risk of sleeping threats, Spyware and Viruses at least once every 6 months. You can reach me on 0401 229 104.
