Computer Problem Repaired - Itunes error message

3 February, 2007 (03:29) | Problems Fixed, Program Problems

I recently came across this obscure itunes error message. It was fixed in the end, but it was quite a strange problem.

The Error message read like this “DDE Server Window: iTunes.exe - Entry Point not Found” “The procedure entry point openVXDhandle could not be located in the Dynamic Link Library Kernel32.dll”

This problem happened before and after a re-installation of windowsXP (to fix other issues), which is strange because usually those types of messages go away after a re-install.

The solution

After trying a range of different things (including an older itunes version from http://www.oldeversion.com) the way we fixed it was to re-install itunes into a different folder.

Why did this work? I believe that one of the files in the itunes folder became corrupt, so whenever itunes was re-installed to the same directory, the same problem would occur.

What could have caused this? the computer may not have been shut down properly while accessing one of the files, or somehow a suspicious music file could have attempted to insert virus code into itunes.

This is a typical example of one of the PC problems I repair in Perth on a regular basis, if you have something similar, I’m happy to work with you to fix the problem.
