Recently we have had a few people inquiring about Laptop repairs. Here is a quick explanation of what can and can’t be done when it comes to Repairing a Laptop PC.

Hardware vs Software Problems

The problems we come across with Laptops fall into one of these two categories. Hardware being if there is a malfunction with the physical equipment inside the computer like if you have spilled a drink into the machine (this is actually quite common). Software errors are things like Viruses or Windows problems, or programs crashing.

Laptops vs Full Sized (tower/desktop) PCs

One advantage of a full sized PC, is that the parts inside are usually interchangeable with other smilar parts. We can swap a 64mb Graphics Card with a 128mb one, for instance. So if one piece of hardware fails, we can identify it and swap it out for a new one.
With laptops however, a large number of parts are specific to that model laptop and it is more difficult to swap parts over so often it is best to return it to the original manufacturer.

What to do if you have laptop problems? - What you can do, When to call the manufacturer and when to call a Computer Technician

If your laptop wont switch on, or if the screen is broken, or if you spilled liquid into the laptop - it may be best to call the original manufacturer.

If the laptop is turning on but is having problems somewhere along the way, give us a call and we will try to work out the best way to fix the problem - if we believe it should be covered under warranty we can advise you of this too.
