Get Ready for Windows Vista

A few weeks ago I went to a Microsoft conference where they demonstrated Windows Vista - the new operating system for your Computer that will replace Windows XP. It is due to be released to the general market early 2007 and has already been packaged up and sent to be manufactured.
Here are some highlights of some of the new features - the good things:
Start bar search
Instead of clicking start, all programs, accessories etc etc, you can just click start, type the program you want and a dyamic list of possiblities come up right away. This will make it easier to find programs.
New Backup tools
There are some new easy-to-use backup tools included in Vista, which will make backups alot easier
Reliability Manager
This one is mainly for IT guys like myself, a new way of visually tracking error messages over time
More funky looks
Vista in general looks more sleek, and has some cool gadgets like weather on your desktop, also switching between programs has a cool 3d effect.
Greater Security
Supposedly Vista has better security features, although there has been some doubt over this recently on various internet news sites - so we will see how it goes.
The not-so cool things:
The hardware required to run Vista is quite advanced, so if you are planning on buying a new PC, you will likely have to spend more on the system to have it run adequately.
There is going to be a learning curve between the two systems, novice Computer users familiar with winXP may feel a little uncomfortable with the new system.
What it means to you?
Most people will likely be able to keep using windows XP for the next few years on their existing Computers, but people buying new Systems will start using Windows Vista. For IT Specialists like myself, new technology like this is exciting while being challenging as we need to constantly stay ahead of the pack and keep on top of new software.
